Saturday the 11th of July was a massive success, to everyone that came down to support the cause, Thank You. We could never had expected to sell everything and make $5, 000 for the Ali Trust, but that’s what went down.
On the 16th November 2006, Alex was admitted to hospital, unable to maintain his balance. Within 24 hours he could not walk, construct full sentences, was suffering blurred vision and had lost all motor neuron functions. 12 hours later he had lost his sight. Alex was diagnosed with Acute Demylination Myelinating Encephalitis, a virus which attacks the nerve endings and their protective coatings. This disease, similar to M.S, is far more devastating, killing off all the nerves and cells within the brain necessary for making every movement, decision and thought. Alex spent three months in rehabilitation for speech, physical and occupational therapy. The majority of this intensive period was spent in stroke wards and aged care facilities, places that are focused on aged rehab. This is the motivation for establishing the Ali fund. Ultimately we want to provide financial assistance and a local rehabilitation and accommodation facility for young adults with A.D.M.E or M.S. In the shorter term, we will aid young adults with the financial aspects of rehabilitation for these diseases. The Ali foundation has already exceeded our expectations – we never thought the cause would snowball so fast. We’ve already raised over $14 000, purely from the contests themselves. The future looks promising, our goal more attainable every day. Thank you for all your ongoing support. It’s greatly appreciated.
